ASNET through the support by GIZ has continued to support the Agri-Jobs 4 Youth initiative with a focus in Western Kenya Counties. The projects implement an integrated approach towards improving the employment situation of rural youth and women.
ASNET hired a consultant to assist in matching labour demand and supply. ASNET toured the Western Kenya counties to follow up on the implementation progress of the project as well as engage with stakeholders like TVET centers, Inters, and agribusiness companies.
It was established that the internship programme was successful benefitting many youths who were out for an attachment or had already graduated.
ASNET Met with principals of the TVET institutions and as a result The Siaya Institute of Technology, Friends School of Kaimosi and Sigalagala National Polytechnic signed a cooperation of agreement with ASNET to create instruments for initiating collaborative activities for the mutual benefits of the institutions. This is to synergize efforts of the institutions and ASNET to stimulate collaboration, strengthening vibrancy of agriculture sector through enhanced skills and competency development so address the challenge of employment among fresh graduates.
The areas of collaboration include Student attachment/internship/ apprentices/e, exchange visits/knowledge sharing, Value addition, Joint publications, Joint academic research projects, Community engagement through sustainable farming amongst others.
