The Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET) on Thursday held the Kakamega County agriculture sector public private dialogue meeting at Golf Hotel. This was supported by USAID Feed the Future Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems (KCDMS) activity implemented by RTI International.
The forum was graced by the CECM Agriculture Hon. Geoffrey Omulayi who applauded ASNET for the Great initiative to launch County ASNETs and support the sector.
The stakeholders pointed out the challenges and opportunities in Kakamega agriculture sector.
Some of the challenges included:
• High cost of running businesses.
• High number of licenses
• High taxes and levies.
• Limited access to capital due to high interest rates on loans.
• Limited incentives
• High cost of electricity and petrol to run machines hence constraining industrial growth.
• Poor policy formulation due to limited public participation.
• climate change
The stakeholders appreciated the work ASNET is doing and pledged their support for Kakamega County ASNET.
