From 9th to 11th December 2024, the Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET), supported by GIZ Kenya, hosted a three-day Policy Analysis, Lobbying, and Advocacy training at the Jacaranda Hotel. The event brought together diverse stakeholders from the agriculture sector, aiming to strengthen their capacity in policy development and advocacy for sustainable growth.
The training commenced with an in-depth introduction to business policy analysis. Participants were introduced to the foundational concepts, including the definition of policy analysis, its significance, and the frameworks that guide the process. This session emphasized identifying policy issues through comprehensive research and the importance of framing problems effectively to inform sound policy decisions.
In subsequent sessions, participants explored various tools and techniques integral to policy analysis. Practical approaches such as cost-benefit analysis, stakeholder analysis, scenario modelling, and Regulatory Impact Assessments (RIA) were presented, equipping attendees with the necessary skills to conduct thorough evaluations and assessments.
The participants were guided through the process of assessing policy alternatives, analyzing impacts and trade-offs, and evaluating feasibility and viability giving them a clear understanding of the steps required to formulate effective and sustainable policies. An engaging segment on stakeholder engagement underscored the importance of mapping and strategically involving key actors in the policy-making process.
In her closing remarks, ASNET Chief Executive Agatha Thuo expressed gratitude to GIZ for their support in making the training a success. Participants lauded the program for its comprehensive approach and practical application, emphasizing its relevance to their professional roles.
The training marked an important step in empowering stakeholders to engage meaningfully in policy processes. By equipping participants with advanced skills in policy analysis, lobbying, and advocacy, ASNET reaffirms its commitment to driving impactful policies that support sustainable development in the agriculture sector.
