A high-level delegation from ASNET, FAO, KEBS, PETS, and the International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE) recently visited Shanghai, China, to explore clean and green energy technologies aimed at supporting Kenya’s food security, trade, and agriculture development.
The team visited a renowned Chinese company specializing in solar power, energy storage systems, and renewable energy solutions. The company committed to supporting Kenya’s growing energy needs by promoting solar energy adoption, reducing energy costs, and building local capacity to deploy green energy technologies in the agriculture sector.
The delegation also toured innovative agricultural projects powered by renewable energy, including rice irrigation systems, greenhouse flower production, and intensive tomato farming — demonstrating how green energy can enhance productivity and sustainability.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Dominic Menjo from PETS highlighted that the government, through the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, is prioritizing renewable energy solutions to boost agriculture and reduce costs for farmers.
Other key representatives included Mr. Hamisi Williams (FAO Kenya), Mr. DANSET Moranga (KEBS), and Mr. Ferrand Cyril (FAO Kenya).
The findings from the visit will be shared with ASNET members and stakeholders to explore opportunities for integrating green energy solutions in Kenya’s agricultural sector.
